ARTS 421 - Advanced Ceramics I (3 credits) (Prereq: ARTS 204 and ARTS 323 or permission of the instructor) This course combines review and refinement of existing clay forming processes leading to the extension of skill acquisitions. The focus is on personal design and construction of the clay object, whether functional and/or sculptural in purpose. Issues with the craft/fine art debate are addressed by presentations and readings to provide historical and contemporary contexts for students to explore design and meaning for the ceramic object today. Further glaze and surface resolutions are explored and mixed media options are addressed. F.
