ARTS 313 Intermediate Painting III, Portraiture - 3 credits Prerequisite(s): ARTS 211 or ARTS 212 or permission of instructor Portrait painting is a genre that expresses essence in the physical, psychological and spiritual aspects of the sitter. The challenge is to express the portrait making it relevant to contemporary art and life. Paint media selection for this course is an individual choice of the student. Knowledge of the chosen paint medium is essential for successful portrait results. Technical and skill development includes anatomical studies, proportions of the face and figure, color studies, observations of skull and plaster casts and compositional strategies through direct observation of the model.
