The course facilitates students’ understanding of the social psychology of tourism and of the social, physical, and economic benefits and costs exchanged by travelers, workers, and communities engaged in the tourism process. Students complete case studies and conduct ethnographic field research in which they observe tourists in their local community in order to better understand the benefits and challenges of living in a tourist destination area for both workers and for the host communities.
