HIST 405 Topics in Late Antique Religious History - 3 credits


This course examines the cultural, economic, political, and military historical developments that altered the Mediterranean world between c. 200 and 800 CE and their impact on diverse religious traditions, illustrating how various religious identities responded to one another and the transformative events of this period. Topics may include the monastic movement, the persistence of paganism, ethnicity and identity, Christianization, shifts in religious art and architecture, urbanization, or other topics as determined by the instructor. This course may be taken for up to six hours of credit under different topics.
