BIOL 521 - Microbial Ecology - 3 credits Prerequisite(s): BIOL 330 and BIOL 370 or permission of instructor Course is designed to introduce students to the vital roles that microorganisms play in various environments and in sustaining life on Earth. Some topics that will be covered include: Microbial metabolic diversity; the role of microorganisms in biogeochemical cycles; microbial diversity, activity and importance in the functioning of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems; microbial bioremediation.
