ENGL 475 - Contemporary Asian Fiction (3 credits) (Prereq: ENGL 101 and ENGL 102 with a grade of ‘C’ or better, a grade of ‘C’ or better in one other ENGL course, and junior standing) A critical study of works by modern and contemporary Asian fiction writers in translation in their literary, social, historical, and philosophical contexts. Drawing from one or more Asian literary traditions, this course explores issues of gender and sexuality, nationalism and colonialism, post colonialism and national trauma, responses to modernization and globalization, consumerism and popular culture, among others.
