Mission Statement

The Mission of the College of Graduate Studies and Research is to support, promote, facilitate, and help develop outstanding graduate programs and research activities at Coastal Carolina University.

In the area of graduate studies, the College collaborates with other University colleges and offices, and with existing graduate programs and the Graduate Council, to coordinate graduate admissions and enrollment, graduate marketing and recruitment, graduate assistantships, and the guiding policies and procedures for graduate programs and graduate education at the University.  The College promotes continuous improvement of existing programs in the training and development of graduate students to become knowledgeable, ethical, and effective leaders and practitioners in their fields.  It helps to facilitate the recruitment of high quality students, supports efforts to enhance the graduate student experience, and celebrates the successes of graduate students and graduate faculty.  It also seeks to identify and facilitate the creation of new graduate programs in areas of existing strength at the University and/or to meet local, regional or national needs.

The College broadly defines research activities as research, scholarship and creative works conducted by undergraduate and graduate students and faculty from all academic disciplines.  The College seeks to develop collaborative research synergies between these groups and increase the quality and quantity of research activities at all levels, leading to significant regional, national, and international contributions.  The College embraces the teacher-scholar model and promotes the integration of research and inquiry practices as a fundamental component of the educational training and development of both undergraduate and graduate students.  Through the Office of Sponsored Programs and Research Services, the College facilitates the pursuit and management of external support, the responsible conduct of research, and the protection of intellectual property.
