Mission Statement
The mission of the Department of Music at Coastal Carolina University is to provide a quality music education for all students, excellent performances for the community and service to the university while supporting an inclusive climate that values individual identities, commonalities and differences.
We believe that music is a vital and indispensable part of the human experience. Participation in musical experiences nurtures artistic and creative impulses common to all societies. We seek to cultivate and sustain a student-centered learning community rooted in superior professional and pedagogical training including diverse performance opportunities for all students.
Our primary goal is to educate the next generation of music performers, makers and teachers. We also seek to provide superior performances and service for our local community, the Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts, and the university. We strive to recruit and maintain an exceptional and diverse faculty, staff and student population in order to achieve departmental and institutional goals for undergraduate and graduate music programs. Our highest purpose is to empower students with the knowledge, skills, understanding, values and integrity that contribute to life-long learning and service in the arts, and active citizenship in a democratic society and interdependent world.
