The American Studies Certificate utilizes a multidisciplinary approach to help students develop their understanding of important political and social issues, cultural trends, and historical periods in the United States. Students will strengthen their critical thinking skills through close reading and analysis of texts and an examination of topics in American Studies through a variety of disciplinary and critical lenses. They will improve their writing and communication skills through discussion, written analyses, and presentations. Finally, they will develop research skills through independent research projects. All of the classes required for the certificate will be taught through a hybrid delivery method, combining online instruction with six Saturday morning lectures held at the Myrtle Beach Education Center.
