HIST 485 Q* - Topics in the Medieval Middle East (3 credits)

This course will examine a variety of historical developments that took place in the medieval Middle East through such lenses as the political, social, religious, cultural, economic, intellectual, and military changes of the period. Topics may include Mongols and Mamluks; gender in the early Islamic world, orientalism and identity in the Islamic world; the Spanish caliphate, shifts in classical Islamic art, architecture, and urbanization, or other topics as determined by the instructor.
