MATH 220 - Mathematical Proofs and Problem Solving (3 credits)


(Prereq: A grade of ‘C’ or better in MATH 160  or MATH 160B ) (Coreq: MATH 161  or MATH 161B ) Detailed investigation of the methods of mathematical proof: direct, indirect, induction, contradiction, case analysis and counter examples. Topics include set theory, functions, relations, cardinality, elements of number theory, elements of real analysis and elements of abstract algebra. Major emphasis placed on understanding, attacking and problem solving. S.
