EDEC 380 Teaching Early Childhood Science - 3 credits
Prerequisite(s):EDEC 276 and complete 4 credits from the following: ASTR 101 and ASTR 101L; ASTR 111 and ASTR 111L; BIOL 101 and BIOL 101L; BIOL 121 and BIOL 121L; BIOL 232 and BIOL 232L; CHEM 101 and CHEM 101L; CHEM 111 and CHEM 111L; GEOL 111 and GEOL 111L; GEOL 112 and GEOL 112L; PHYS 103 and PHYS 103L; PHYS 201 and PHYS 201L; PHYS 205 and PHYS 205L; PHYS 211and PHYS 211L; MSCI 101 and MSCI 101L; MSCI 111 and MSCI 111L; OR MSCI 112 and MSCI 112L This course is the study of the content and pedagogy that promote candidates’ development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills in science. This course focuses on the constructivist approach to teaching and learning science, instructional methods and materials that encourage early childhood students to develop scientific literacy and inquiry, and practices that align with the South Carolina State Standards for Science.
