Student Engagement
Career Services

Career Services empowers students and alumni to explore career and graduate school options, develop professionally, and achieve success in their future endeavors.
Career Services provides career counseling for all students and alumni to explore their values, interests, abilities, and personality traits to select or confirm academic majors and career paths. The department works collaboratively with faculty, freshmen success seminars, student organizations, and employers to help each student set and reach career goals.
Career Services assists students with their search for jobs and internships.
Career Services provides networking and professional development activities to connect students, alumni, and employers through a variety of campus programs including fall and spring career fairs, employer led workshops and presentations, campus interviews, networking events, and both online and in person recruitment opportunities.
Additional resources include a nationwide job and internship posting site, called Handshake, an online training and interview practice program, online research sites for jobs, contacts, and company information, and a virtual library for resume, job search, and interview information.
Career Services provides students with a dynamic internship program for all academic majors. Through this program, students gain valuable work experience in their chosen fields while making contacts for their career network. Internships may be taken for credit or on a non-credit basis.

Military and Veterans Services serves as a resource to help military-connected students, student veterans, and their dependents succeed at Coastal Carolina University. This department houses the School Certifying Officials who assist students with their Veteran Affairs (VA) educational benefits.
Military and Veteran Services advises the Student Veterans Association, a CCU student organization. This student group collaborates with the professional staff within the department to advocate on behalf of veterans, service members, and their dependents.
Orientation, Transition, and Family Programs

Orientation, Transition, and Family Programs (OTFP) develops and facilitates programs, initiatives, and services to support the transitional needs of new and current undergraduate students and their family members at Coastal Carolina University. The department designs programs to engage, challenge, develop, and support participants. OTFP develops orientation and transitional programs for all incoming students that help prepare them for experiencing college life, as well as the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead academically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially. The department also supports current students as they persist along their journey towards success and becoming proud Chanticleer alumni. Additionally, OTFP plans Family Weekend, works with the Family Council to better involve families in the University community, and is the source of student leadership development for the diverse team of students who serve as orientation leaders, team leaders, and student coordinators.
Student Involvement and Leadership
Student Involvement and Leadership serves as a hub for fostering a vibrant and engaged campus community. Comprising several functional areas, the department plays a pivotal role in shaping the overall student experience.
Civic and Community Engagement focuses on cultivating a sense of civic responsibility among students, encouraging active participation in community service initiatives, and promoting social change.
Fraternity and Sorority Life strives to provide a values-based experience that promotes the core principles of service, scholarship, friendship, leadership, and philanthropy in membership and in all aspects of life.
Student Organizations and Leadership offers nearly 200 opportunities for students to form and manage a diverse array of clubs and organizations, fostering personal growth, teamwork, and initiative. Leadership programs are open to all members of the campus community to better understand their strengths and expand skill sets to better serve their community.
Lastly, Campus Programs and Traditions is responsible for organizing events and activities that build school spirit, celebrate traditions, and enhance campus culture.
Through these functional areas, Student Involvement and Leadership facilitates student growth, involvement, and leadership development, ultimately contributing to a vibrant and thriving campus community.
Teal and Bronze Society

The Teal and Bronze Society is a team of student leaders who specialize in school spirit and teaching others about our beloved Coastal traditions. They assist with events like Teal Tuesday, Homecoming, athletic events, and other large-scale campus events that spread community and pride.
Student Government Association

The Student Government Association (SGA) is comprised of student body elected executive officers and senators who represent each of the six academic colleges. The chief function of SGA is to serve as a liaison between the administration and the students of CCU, representing student opinion to the administration of the University, participating in the governance of the University by serving on many joint faculty-student committees, and serving as an ex-officio member of the University’s Board of Trustees.
Pathway1954

Pathway 1954 is a leadership and engagement initiative that adds value to the out-of-class experience for every CCU student. This is a self-paced, co-curricular experience that offers many opportunities for students to engage in content areas, including Career, Academics, Spirit and Traditions, Wellness, and Civic Engagement. Students that complete Pathway 1954 are inducted in the 1954 Society.
Intercultural and Inclusion Student Services

Intercultural and Inclusion Student Services (IISS) is dedicated to creating a safe and supportive campus environment that encourages achievement and success for ALL students. The department is committed to enhancing the student experience by offering cultural development opportunities grounded in belonging, cultural awareness, and social justice education.
Student Navigating and Advising Peers Mentoring Program (S.N.A.P.)
Students Navigating and Advising Peers (S.N.A.P.) is a mentoring program that provides first-year students with tools for collegiate success. During their first year, the program partners each new student with a seasoned upperclass student mentor who will assist with adjusting to college life. Through establishing these relationships with their peers, first-year students in the program gain peer advisement on campus resources, services, and involvement opportunities to aid both academic success and personal development. Once a month, S.N.A.P. meets to explore and discuss how mentees are adjusting and address any issues they are experiencing. Outside of the designated first Thursday meeting time, mentors remain in high contact with their paired mentees to provide a sense of continuous support.

African American Initiative for Men (AAIM)
The African American Initiative for Men (AAIM) is a retention program administered by Intercultural and Inclusion Student Services. This initiative is designed to improve the academic and personal growth of men in the program. The goals of the program are to:
- Increase the retention and matriculation of African American men at CCU.
- Raise university perceptions and expectations of African American men.
Women of Color (WOC)
The Women of Color initiative is designed to enhance communication, camaraderie, and mentorship opportunities among all women of color. Students are provided a venue for all to come together and share common concerns and discuss issues that affect them on and off-campus. Empowerment sessions are one avenue used for students to express themselves, and to gain guidance and information.
People Respecting Individual Diversity and Equality (PRIDE)
People Respecting Individual Diversity and Equality (PRIDE) is a retention and engagement initiative administered by Intercultural and Inclusion Student Services, PRIDE aims to improve the academic and personal growth of LGBTQIA+ students at Coastal Carolina University by enhancing communication, community involvement, and mentorship opportunities for students.
The fundamental goals of the program are to:
- Increase the recruitment, retention, and matriculation of LGBTQIA+ students at CCU.
- Create opportunities for campus, community, and civic engagement focused on the betterment of the LGBTQIA+ community.
- Provide peer-to-peer support and mentorship for students in the LGBTQIA+ community.
Safe Zone

The Safe Zone program is based on the commitment on Coastal Carolina University’s commitment to cultural diversity and the needs of LGBTQIA+ students, faculty, and staff.
Mission and Purpose
Safe Zone members are committed to providing an environment in which every student and employee is free to thrive on an academic, professional, and personal level within a community that is based on respect and dignity. There is pride in Coastal Carolina University’s culturally diverse population and support cultural diversity in every way possible. Safe Zone sends a message that sexual orientations and gender presentations are part of our culture, are acknowledged, and supported. Safe Zone provides a visible network of volunteers for LGBTQIA+ and other individuals seeking information and assistance regarding sexual orientation, gender identity, harassment and/or discrimination.
Lib Jackson Student Union

The Lib Jackson Student Union is more than a building. It is the “living room” of our campus. The union houses a 230-seat movie theater offering discounted movies on the weekends, a state-of-the-art game room where students can relax between classes by playing a game of pool or video games, and a variety of lounge spaces for students to decompress between classes. In addition to some meeting spaces, the building houses a Student Organization Resource Center (SORC), where any student organization can utilize supplies, meet, and prepare for their many events and activities.

The Campus Activities Board (CAB) at Coastal Carolina University is a dynamic student-led organization that plays a central role in planning and organizing a wide range of engaging events and activities on campus. Comprised of enthusiastic student leaders, CAB aims to enhance the student experience by providing diverse and entertaining programming that caters to the interests and preferences of the student body. From hosting concerts, guest speakers, and comedy shows to organizing cultural events, themed parties, and recreational activities, CAB strives to create a vibrant and inclusive campus community where students can socialize, relax, and have memorable experiences outside the classroom.

The Dean of Students Office works to support and enhance the holistic development of students, focusing on student empowerment, advocacy, crisis management, and personal accountability. The office serves as the primary contact for matters relating to the Code of Student Conduct, student behavior intervention, and emergency assistance
Community Standards and Student Accountability

The Community Standards and Student Accountability team works to investigate, respond to, and resolve instances of alleged misconduct both on campus and in the surrounding communities, in order to foster a safe academic and social environment for all students. The student conduct process is intended to be an educational opportunity to assist students in understanding the impact of their decisions on both an individual and community level. The process operates within the guidelines of the Code of Student Conduct to determine students’ levels of responsibility for cases of misconduct based on the preponderance of information present.
Student Empowerment and Advocacy

Student Empowerment and Advocacy supports students in managing all aspects of their personal, social and academic success by addressing questions or concerns about utilizing various campus resources. This area assists students struggling to function academically, socially or mentally because of a personal challenge or crisis by aiding students in identifying and navigating offices both on and off campus to meet their respective needs. To provide holistic support to students, this area also provides student emergency notifications, manages student benevolence funding, basic needs assistance, and chosen/preferred name changes for students.
Chant Intervention Team (C-IT)

The Chant Intervention Team (C‐IT) is composed of representatives from across campus whose mission is to identify and address student behaviors that are concerning or disruptive to the campus community. The C‐IT collaborates to assist students who are struggling to maintain adequate functioning due to behavioral, psychological, or medical concerns.
Health and Well-Being
Health and Well-Being provides holistic well-being services to CCU students to support success inside and outside of the classroom. The below websites offer information about each of these offices and the services they provide.
Some of the programs offered in Health and Well-Being include::
- TimelyCare provides free and immediate access to medical and mental health support for all CCU students, available 24/7, 365 days a year from anywhere in the United States.
- Counseling and Support Groups for a variety of issues students may face in college.
- Interpersonal Violence Prevention and Support resources including confidential advocacy.
- Chants for Recovery provides a welcoming and inclusive environment for students seeking recovery and opportunities to engage in a substance-free college experience.
- Step Up bystander intervention program is an initiative to encourage students to “Step Up” in situations that have the potential to endanger the health and safety of others.

Accessibility and Disability Services (ADS) at Coastal Carolina University offers support and assistance to current and incoming students with disabilities and medical conditions by coordinating and implementing appropriate accommodations and providing resources and services as they relate to academics, university housing, dining, and campus activities. ADS functions as a source of information, educational outreach and advice, as well as a communication link among individuals with disabilities, faculty and staff, and the university community at large.
Student Media
The Chanticleer is Coastal Carolina University’s editorially independent newspaper, run by students, for students. Founded as The Fledgling in 1962, the newspaper strives to report on what matters most to the CCU community, whether it be stories from around the world or right in our backyard.
