ANTH 303 Murder, Mayhem & Madness: Culture & Crime - 3 credits This course is an anthropological exploration of cultural attitudes and influences on homicide, public execution and/or torture of criminals and treatment of the “criminally insane.” This course will include the study of serial and mass murderers and may include case studies from the ancient world to modern society. Examples will be viewed through the lens of cultural and historical contexts, gender and age roles, class differentiation and utilize interdisciplinary sources for a holistic approach. Popular culture, media, and violence in identity formation will also be addressed. Semester(s) Offered: Fall
