DCD 301 Q Text Methods - 3 credits Prerequisite(s): DCD Foundation courses (DCD 100, DCD 102, DCD 110, DCD 200, and two of the following: DCD 201, DCD 202, GEOG 200). This methods course provides an in depth overview and history of text technologies and the mediation of literary texts. Students are introduced to concepts of textual mediation, digitalization and archiving, as well as critical debates surrounding intellectual property in digital environments, text interface design, and the politics of reading and translation across modalities. Practically, students gain exposure and facility with text encoding systems and languages including TEI, XML, and metadata platforms (Omeka). Semester(s) Offered: As needed
