ENVI 331 Introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing - 3 credits Equivalent: MSCI 331 Prerequisite(s): One Computer course and one Statistics course and MATH 160 or MATH 160B Corequisite(s): ENVI 331L An introduction to the fundamental concepts of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing. Using a database tied to particular geographic coordinates, a GIS is an automated system for storing, transforming, analyzing and displaying spatial data. This course discusses input methods, data storage, data accuracy, data models, types of query and analysis, and map output. Each student designs, conducts and presents a semester research project.
