HIST 449 Ancient Egypt  -  3 credits


This course provides a historical survey of Ancient Egypt between 3200 BCE (Predynastic Egypt) to 641 CE (End of Roman Period in Egypt). Discussions of each time period (Predynastic, Old Kingdom, Middle Kingdom, New Kingdom, Intermediate Periods, Ptolemaic, and Roman) include major historical figures, events, and places in addition to pertinent topics related to political, social, cultural, and religious trends. Additionally, students explore specific topics like religion, funerary events, art and architecture and roles in society. Works of art, architecture, and primary sources are analyzed and discussed to expose students to methods of obtaining information from ancient historical sources.
