COMM 406 Communication Identity in Sport - 3 credits Facilitates in-depth understanding and application of theory to the study of sport, communication, and the social construction of identity. Teaches analysis and critique of how sport serves as a historical and cultural force in the social construction of identity as well as how sport serves as a site for resistance and power, both locally and globally. Topics may include examination of communicative constructions and representations at the intersection of race, gender, sexuality, ability, national identity, and other identity factors that are influenced by and exert influence upon sport.
