CHIN 410 Topics in Chinese Grammar - 3 credits Prerequisite(s): CHIN 210 or by placement, or permission of the instructor This course offers a comprehensive survey of the grammar of Mandarin Chinese or pǔtōnghuà by examining the core structures of Chinese grammar through the practical use of the language. Students improve their knowledge of the syntax and grammar of Mandarin Chinese through varied and progressive exercises. Topics covered in this course include verb phrases, tense and aspect, clausal word order and movement, active and passive voices. Students are also introduced to current approaches to Chinese grammar and related issues and debates to better understand these topics. Semester(s) Offered: Offered as needed
