EDST 201 Ancient Wordsmithing and Cultural Contexts - 3 credits

This course provides an opportunity for students to expand their English vocabulary as future educators and learners in a variety of disciplinary fields, while exploring best practices for teaching new terms using principles of Greek and Latin morphology, a technique employed in many schools today. Collections of Greco-Roman cultural artifacts introduce each disciplinary field, yielding relevant and useful vocabulary terms, methods for activating prior knowledge in the classroom and in oneself, as well as discoveries about ancient practices, beliefs, and values, especially pertaining to schooling and education, which have survived and still thrive in American schools and society today.
