The main purpose of this minor is to enable undergraduate students at Costal Carolina University to establish deeper understanding of the range of complex issues in the Middle East—an important and rapidly changing part of the world. Moreover, it will provide students with a solid foundation for understanding the region’s politics, including both Arab countries and other non-Arab countries states such as Israel, Iran and Turkey. MES minor has become a popular minor at many American universities.
This minor will benefit students in three ways: gaining knowledge, becoming more aware of events concerning their lives directly, and creating better job opportunities since governmental institutions and non-governmental institutions are seeking individuals who have an understanding of this important region.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Identify different political and social institutions in the Middle East and demonstrate an understanding and awareness of the primary themes, trends, events and individuals in Middle Eastern History since the late 19th century.
- Understand the ethnic, social, religious, political, and economic diversity in the Middle East.
- Become more familiar with the various states and peoples that make up the Middle East.
Requirements
- A grade of ‘C’ or better is required for all courses.
- Students can count no more than 9 credit hours to both their major and this minor.
