Islamic Studies Minor

The Islamic studies minor is designed to provide students with the necessary knowledge and analytical skills to understand the religion of Islam and the role it plays in diverse societies globally and throughout history. Students study Muslim sects, texts (e.g., the Qur’an), practices and more. Today, Muslims make up almost one-quarter of the world’s population, and comprise the majority population of at least fifty countries. In an increasingly globalized world, knowledge of Islam and Muslim societies is an important part of being an informed global citizen, especially for students pursuing degrees in the humanities, education, or social sciences.
