Mission Statement
The Caribbean and Latin American Studies (CLAS) minor at Coastal Carolina University educates students to be active, global citizens for the 21st century and prepares them for a variety of careers in education, NGOs, public health, entertainment, business, government, and other professions. This interdisciplinary minor provides undergraduates with the knowledge and skills to learn about the diverse peoples, history, society, and cultures of Caribbean and Latin America. Students learn how to apply a scholarly approach to understanding the historical and contemporary issues facing these geographic areas and multiple strategies for addressing them. This minor consists of 18 credit hours of coursework, drawn from at least three disciplines.
Requirements
- Up to 9 credit hours in this minor may count towards another minor program, major program, and/or Core requirements.
- Up to 6 credit hours of courses may come from a single discipline among the electives.
- Students may apply up to 12 credit hours from study abroad programs, intensive summer language study programs, or appropriate internships to the minor. All external programs and internships must be approved in advance by the coordinator of the minor.
- A grade of C is required for all courses in the minor.
