The minor in Russian and Eurasian Studies (RES) allows students to specialize in Russia and the Russian influenced Eurasia, including Central Asia and the Caucasus. This flexible, interdisciplinary minor broadens the student’s understanding of the region from multiple perspectives. It includes a variety of classes across disciplines so that students can customize their program, depending on interests and goals. If you are interested in any combination of language, politics, culture, intelligence, and arts, this minor offers a pathway to achieve a unique interdisciplinary knowledge of the region.
The minor in Russian and Eurasian Studies can prepare you for an internationally focused career in government intelligence and diplomacy, business, arts and media, education, social sciences, and non-governmental organizations. It also prepares students to succeed in graduate programs in RES fields.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate the ability to discuss and analyze the region across different fields of knowledge.
- Demonstrate understanding of Russian and Eurasian identities, including the interaction of geography, language, culture, politics, and economics in creating and shaping these identities over time.
- Explore practical applications in related professions and academic settings.
Requirements
- A grade of C is required for all courses in the minor.
- Students may double-count up to nine credits from their majors or CCU core requirements towards the minor.
- Students may apply up to twelve credits from study abroad programs, intensive summer language study programs, or appropriate internships to the minor. All external programs must be approved in advance by the coordinator of the minor.
