The Bachelor of Arts in Physics Education provides Coastal Carolina University students with a four-year undergraduate degree in education with a specialization in physics. They will receive a strong foundation in the fundamentals of both physics and education practices that will enable them to be excellent educators in physics with competitive qualifications.

The mission of the physics education program is to prepare students to be able to teach physics and physical science at the secondary level. In conjunction with the faculty of the College of Education and Social Sciences, the faculty of the physics program is committed to providing high-impact undergraduate experiences for students through high-quality student-centered teaching and undergraduate mentoring. Students completing a degree in physics education will receive a strong foundation in the fundamentals of both physics and education practices, preparing them for licensure as well as for K-12 or similar environments.

This degree is designed for students with a strong interest in both physics as a field of study and in education and pedagogical practices at the secondary level (grades 7-12). This degree program requires students to take core classes, gain a strong foundation in educational principles and practices at the high school level, and obtain a thorough grasp of the fundamentals of physics through courses in common with all other physics major degree programs at CCU, plus upper-division courses in experimental laboratory skills and capstone research, the latter of which may be tailored to research areas in physics education pedagogy. Additionally, student employment opportunities within the department of physics and engineering science, such as tutor or as a learning assistant, provide additional options for practical experience in teaching physics in addition to the internship requirements of the degree. The program is offered in tandem with the Spadoni College of Education and Social Sciences and follows the degree completion requirements set by the South Carolina Department of Education and Spadoni College.
