Mission Statement
The Bachelor of Science in nursing completion program is committed to advancing the education of registered nurses to meet the growing health care needs in the community, state, nation and the world. In recognition of the value of a comprehensive baccalaureate nursing education and sound liberal arts foundation, our mission is to prepare graduates who can provide evidence-based comprehensive nursing care that is caring and respectful of diverse individual needs.
Students completing this degree are prepared to implement roles in today’s health care environment that require commitment to evidence-based practice, professionalism and professional ethics, health promotion and disease prevention for individuals and population, leadership skills and knowledge that utilize health technologies, communication and collaboration to promote patient safety and quality care.
To this end, the faculty embraces quality teaching and engaged learning opportunities in the classroom, faculty-student mentoring, and multiple collaborative learning opportunities throughout the program.
The curriculum of the Bachelor of Science in nursing completion program is derived from this mission and the American Nurses Association (ANA) Scope and Standards of Practice, and the National League for Nursing (NLN) Competencies for Baccalaureate Nursing Education.
Admission Requirements
The admission requirements for this program are:
- Active license as a registered nurse or eligible to test.
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program with a grade of ‘C’ or better in all nursing courses.

Student Learning Outcomes
At the completion of the program, students will be able to:
- Apply knowledge from nursing, the sciences, and a liberal education as the foundation for clinical judgment, reflective practice and decision-making in a variety of dynamic settings.
- Incorporate principles of person-centered care that is compassionate, individualized, coordinated, holistic, and evidence-based.
- Use the nursing process to care for diverse clients across the lifespan focusing on the promotion of health and wellbeing, disease prevention, chronic disease care, regenerative and restorative care, and hospice, palliative and supportive care.
- Collaborate, advocate, and support improvement of equitable population health outcomes.
- Incorporate professional standards, accountability, ethics, and values in nursing judgment to promote patient safety and quality care.
- Integrate nursing research findings and best practice evidence into nursing practice.
- Engage in self-reflection and other activities that foster lifelong learning, personal health, and professional growth.
Policies and Requirements
Students must earn a grade of ‘C’ or better in each course used to satisfy the major course requirements. All students will be required to complete a practicum while taking NUR 410 Population Health Nursing - 4 credits and NUR 420 Nursing Leadership and Management - 4 credits . A minimum of 30 credit hours of the required 120 credit hours must be taken at Coastal Carolina University to achieve a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. Students may transfer up to 90 credits from regionally accredited two-year and four-year institutions for degree credit.
Requirements for Practicum Experiences
- Current BLS certification for infants, child and adult.
- Negative criminal background check and negative drug screen are required for any practicum experience.
- Students must meet the health and immunization requirements of any practicum agency.
- Current health insurance is required for NUR 410 and NUR 420 .
- The above requirements must be current at the time submitted and remain current during the duration of the practicum experiences: NUR 410 and NUR 420.
